Knowing & Doing the Will of God
In John 4:34, the Lord Jesus Christ declared:
Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
While hanging on the Cross and about to give up the ghost, He declared (John 19:30): “… It is finished….“
This tells us that the will of God is established; it has been given already, and the Lord Jesus Christ did the will and finished the work. As Jesus Christ is the One who has done the will of God and finished His work, so are we in the world to do the will of God and finish His work. The will of God in Heaven is same as His will on earth.
The will and work of God are manifold; they encapsulate and categorize what He desires and how He works out the desires respectively. It is possible to know all of the established will of God because He has given them already. We infer from Acts 22:14 that believers and saints can know the will of God; we are exhorted to know His will.
All the various and uncountable desires of our hearts given to us by God are consistent with His will. So, in every circumstance or in everything desired, the believer must look to see how consistent with the established will of God the details of such circumstance or desire are. If consistent, the believer or saint proceeds to engage or do with power of Christ that works in him or her.
By the gift of the faith of God, believers have and exercise the effectual power to do the will of God and finish His work. Therefore, we see that all things we need comes from Him:
His will that has been done by Christ, which we must walk in order that such will might be perfected in us;
His desire that He puts in our hearts in order that we desire things that are consistent with His will, and that are good for us;
His gift of faith wherein is the power by which the desire is done according to His will; and
His gift of love by which the perfect result is made manifest.
So, what is the fullness of the will of God that is already established, and to which our God given desires must be consistent? The fullness comprises the following that are deliberated given in a sequential order:
1Pet. 2:13-15: SUBMIT yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.
2. Deliverance: (Includes deliverance form any form of evil, or from anything that corrupts the soul, or from anything that is short of perfect soundness)
Gal 1:4: (Our Lord Jesus Christ) who gave himself for our sins, that he might DELIVER us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father.
3. Obtaining Eternal Life:
John 6:40: And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may HAVE ETERNAL LIFE: and I will raise him up at the last day.
4. Accountability: (Stewardship over all things of eternal life and brethren under authority)
John 6:38: And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should LOSE NOTHING, but should raise it up again at the last day.
5. Sanctification: (For the sake of His name, God sets apart all things given to the saint as pure, spotless, and blameless)
1Thes. 4:3-4: For this is the will of God, even YOUR SANCTIFICATION, that ye should abstain from fornication: that every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor.
6. Knowledge of the Truth:
1Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to COME UNTO THE KNOWLDEGE OF THE TRUTH.
1Ti 2:4 Who will have all MEN TO BE SAVED, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
Above line-item things in the will of God are your checklist for consistency when faced with a decision to make, or when inundated with desires in the heart, or when working out any thing under any circumstance. If you have a decision to make, or a desire in your heart, or anything you are working out that is not consistent with the things of the will of God, drop the decision, or desire, or kind of work.
When you receive prophetic words (Jesus Christ is the only and now official spokesperson of the Father – Hebrews. 1:1-2), or when you say words of prayer asking for any thing, are such words according to the things in the will of God? Will such words bring about a result consistent with those things in will of God?
Now that you have come to know the will of God, live and work out all things according to His will.
