Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State recently had an interactive session with journalists in Lagos where he disclosed various moves that his administration is making to better the lots of the people of the state.
He also spoke on the crisis in the Niger Delta and the effort that President Umaru Yar’Adua’s making to address the situation. Godwin Haruna was there
What are the major challenges faced by your administration since May, when you ascended the seat of power?
The first major challenge we met on ground was the debt profile of the state, but we are lucky in terms of revenue exchange and with the derivation revenue, the revenue in the state has improved. However, we met a debt profile on ground which I don’t want to repeat here and I am sure that you have seen all the write-ups in the Nigerian newspapers.
The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, in an interview with newsmen in Uyo, the state capital, spoke on his efforts to develop the state, the controversial Amakpe refinery, alleged crisis in the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the indefinite postponement of the local government election in the state. Kunle Olayeni was there. Excerpts:
Since you assumed office as the governor of the state, you have not moved into the official residence. Why?
The residence of the Governor is not very nice for now. You can take a look, so that you’ll advise me whether I should stay there or not. We want to do a lot of structural changes. We want to even reconstruct the entire place. This had been planned even by the last administration and we want to put it into effect. If I move in now, there may be a kind of laissez faire attitude; laziness may come in and then contractors may not give you a state-of-the-art befitting governor’s residence that will be the pride to Akwa Ibom people. That’s what we are planning. Again, I’m a very simple man. I prefer my small house in the meantime until we move to the Government House.
Hi our dear gov.Godswill,we welcome u,we pray that God should give u knowledge and wisdom to rule this state.we are glad to have u as our gov.from lagos.
Congratulation Your Excellency, you couldn’t have come earlier or later than now to lead Akwa Ibom People to the land of fulfillment. Truely your steps is directed by God.
Continue to lead with the fear of God, you are on the right side of history
(AKPF LAGOS STATE SECRETARY)
