Perform and Carry Everyone Along – AKS Governor Charges Elected LG Officials

Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has charged elected Local Government Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and Councillors to run an all-embracing administration and make performance their watch word when they assume office.

The Governor, who spoke through his deputy, Mr. Nsima Ekere, at the opening of a two-day workshop for the incoming Local Government officials at Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo, on Thursday, asked them to carry everybody along in their programmes irrespectiveof where their support came from.

His words: “You won under a political party but your service should be to all parties. PDP may have won all the offices but if you must succeed, you have to run an all-embracing administration. Therefore, make performance your watch word. Performance has no party. Performance has no gender. Performance has no dialect. Performance is simply people-centred leadership. So, whether you were elected in Mbo or in Obot Akara, your job is to help us to interpret democracy to your people in their local dialects by taking development to their door-steps.”

Chief Akpabio urged the in coming Local Government officials to key into the ongoing uncommon transformation project of the State Government and take the gospel of development to all areas of the state by channeling their time, energy and resources to the development oftheir communities.

He warned them against dissipating their energy on in-fighting, pointing out that they had a choice either to perform and be promoted to higher office or fail to perform and retire into insignificance.

“What your people need is development,” he said. “Why they elected you is development. What you owe them is development.”

The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr. Effiong Abia, explained that the essence of the workshop was to expose the incoming Local Government officials to the rudiments of Local Government Administration and prepare them for the task of governance.

The Chairman of the Associationof Local Governments (ALGON), Mr. Ubong Ekefre, urged the incoming Local Government officials to see their election as an opportunity to add value to the Governor’s uncommon transformation at the state level.
