Gov. Godswill Akpabio at South-South Economic Summit Says Akwa Ibom State Is ready for the World April 26, 2012

Akpabio at South-South Summit Says Akwa Ibom Is ready For the World

Akwa Ibom State Governor Chief Godswill Akpabio has called on investors to take full advantage of the infrastructural renaissance, rich economic potentials, relative peace and security currently being in place by his administration and invest in the State.

He spoke during an interactive session atthe 2nd South-South Economic Summit in Asaba, the Delta State capital said his administration has made a provision of N20bn in the 2012 budget as Industrial Development Fund to encourage private investors to invest in some small and medium scale industries.

Chief Akpabio maintained that his administration was ready to offer tax rebate and ensure equity participation of private investors towards the industrialization of the state.

He said his government has built over 260 roads, an international airport, an independent Power plant and is currently  developing a deep seaport and other infrastructure that will enable the state to host not just Nigerians, but the entire world.

Governor Akpabio used the summit to intimate everyone that his administration has prepared Akwa Ibom youths for the emerging industrial economy by investing heavily in free and compulsory education.

He called for the re-structuring of the federal system to enable every state take advantage of and exploit the rich resources in their respective domains rather than relying in oil and gas revenue.

Akpabio re-iterated  his call for the establishment of state police, adding that  this will ensure full security, as it will enable the States to take full responsibility of security issues in their domain.

The Vice President Namadi Sambo who represented President Goodluck Jonathan, commended the South South Governors for providing a foundation for the development of the region, and the country.

He lauded the South South Governors for their exemplary leadership in their respective states, saying more tangible programmes have been witnessed in the region.

He described Akwa Ibom International Airport,particularly the maintenance, repairs and overhaul facilities as the first of its kind in Africa and also commended Governor Akpabio  for his exploits in infrastructural revolution of the State.

The Akwa Ibom State delegation comprisingthe Head Of Civil Service, all Commissioners and Special Advisers, and the State leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party led by the Chairman Mr PaulEkpo.

All the South South Governors made a case for the re-structuring of the federal system in the country to allow for more meaningful development.
