In an electric presentation during the first ever global tele-rally organized by the Akwa Ibom Diaspora Network (AIDN), His Excellency Chief (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio left no one in doubt about his zeal and passion for the development of Akwa Ibom State and reiterated his commitment to actively engage Akwa Ibom people in the Diaspora in building and sustaining the development of the State.
This first-of-its kind global tele-rally was moderated by a team led by Hope Umanah, Esq. (USA) and broadcast over a teleconference and streamed live on the internet, clearly evincing the claim that His Excellency, Gov. Godswill Akpabio is the digital Governor of Akwa Ibom State. History has been made yet again by the Akwa Ibom Diaspora Network (AIDN) through this unique activity.
Having been pleased with what they’ve seen, and knowing that there is more work to be done, Dr. King and other ladies who could not hold their excitement occasionally punctuated the conference with jubilant songs and chants of “Godswill! Four more years; Godswill! Four more years”.
For two hours, a global audience of supporters raptly listened as Chief (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio passionately addressed them and answered questions about his unparalleled achievements since he came into office as Governor of the State. In one of the comic moments of the evening, he remarked that those Nigerians in Abuja looking for house help, will now have to look elsewhere for “Abiodun, Shehu and Bola”. This, he said, is the immediate impact of the Free and Compulsory Universal Basic Education Policy of his administration.
Gov. Akpabio, in his inspiring address, also spoke of his future plans for Akwa Ibom State. He rolled out some policy directions for his second term, promising to cite at least one major industry in each of the Local Government Areas of the State in order to boost job creation. He also called on the Diaspora to be prepared for their contributions in the health and technology transfer sectors.
Gov. Akpabio touched on human capital development and stated that his Government has awarded several million Naira scholarships to Akwa Ibom students to study overseas. This, he added, will help the State to meet the human resource challenges of the new Akwa Ibom.
In his welcome speech, Mr. Clement Ikpatt, President of Akwa Ibom Diaspora Network, enjoined all participants to celebrate the uncommon transformation registered so far by the Gov. Godswill Akpabio’s administration and to expect even more dividends during the Governor’s second term in office. “If Gov. Godswill Akpabio has done these much in just three and a half years, he certainly can exceed our expectations in another four years. Therefore, call your people at home and encourage them to re-elect Gov. Akpabio, tell them to register and go out to vote. Tell them to avoid violence and make this election a slam dunk victory for Akwa Ibom State, free and fair for the sake of continued development in our land” he said.
Over five thousands of Akwa Ibom citizens from all over the world called in to participate or watch the event on the Internet as various stakeholders in the Diaspora took turns to extol Gov. Godswill Akpabio’s exemplary and visionary leadership while calling for his re-election as the governor of the State. Barrister Uduak Ukpeh who represented Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District in Europe poured praises on His Excellency for the building of Etim Ekpo bridge, neglected since the Nigerian Civil war, which had become a dead trap. He further stated that Gov. Akpabio has bequeathed so much to the people of Akwa Ibom State, therefore, “to whom much is given much is also expected”. Let us return Gov. Akpabio for asking him to contribute his expertise in healthcare development in the State. He went further to state, “I stand before you as a proud Akwa Ibom Diasporan to unequivocally and without any reservations call for four more years for our beloved Governor, HE, Chief (Dr) Akpabio at the helm of affairs of Akwa Ibom State! I am speaking as someone he invited from the Diaspora to help him and his appointees rebuild the almost comatose healthcare system he found upon election in 2007 in the state. I am speaking as someone who participated and witnessed the revolutionary transformation of a dilapidated system to one in which the phones of the State’s Ministry of Health and Hospitals Management Board, ring off the hook with doctors all over the country wanting to come and work in Akwa Ibom State. HE inherited one consultant in the State, and in two years, he approved the hiring of twenty-five more consultants. He met dilapidated and run down infrastructure of the General Hospitals. Today, under his close supervision, most of them wear a new look following extensive renovation and new equipment.

Mrs. Idongesit Nwido of Dublin, Republic of Ireland, spoke on behalf of the women in Europe and pledged their unalloyed support to His Excellency’s second term bid, saying that Gov. Akpabio has done so much in transforming Akwa Ibom State and therefore deserves a second term. Mrs. Nwido enthusiastically declared: “Our experience of the last three and a half years has marked you out as an unquestionable “Promise Keeper” and we therefore envisage a second tenure characterized by sustainable economic growth in Akwa Ibom State, resulting in higher employment levels and increased security of life and property, among other dividends of democracy. “While all these expectations are met, we trust that you will continue to harness and consolidate the free and compulsory education in extending the program to the Secondary School level”.
She went further, to say “Your Excellency, you have restored the dignity of Akwa Ibom people from the timid position of third class citizens in Nigeria to the distinctive position of First Class citizens of Nigeria, and changed our dear state from its hitherto pedestrian status to that of a preferred destination. What else can the people ask for than say “Let this God’s will continue in our State”. It is just a way of saying “Thank You for all the good works you have done for us. We in the Diaspora are proud of you”, she concluded.
Many others expressed their support and called for the re-election of Gov. Akpabio to a second term in office. Wherever they were around the globe, whether they listened in on the phone or watched it live on the Internet, Akwa Ibomites came away thinking, this was indeed an event of epic proportions! Akwa Ibom people at home and in the Diaspora went to bed at the close of the conference with theirs heads held high trusting that Gov. Akpabio is indeed the will of God for his people and prayed that Godswill be done again in Akwa Ibom State, the Promised Land.
